NEWS, INTERVIEWS AND EVERYTHING RELATED TO PERUMIN IN THE MEDIA

This July 19, Tthe PERUMIN Hub contestcompetition, the third stage of the program, closed, on July 19 the third stage of the program, with 79 proposals and the participation of innovators from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, the United States, France, Holland, Israel, Peru and Qatar. Beyond the figuresBeyond the numbers, this first edition had two great major challenges:, to innovate in an innovation process, and to consolidate a community of innovators around the mining sector.

How do we innovate in our innovation process?

From the design of the program we decided to bet focus on “connecting” and “collaborating;”, in the end the ultimately, technologies  work because people and institutions make them work, that is how we decided not to focus on the contest but rather on the previous stages, such as the definition of challenges, the matchmakings between innovators, and between innovator and collaborator of the mining company; instances that created generated feedback, complementarity, and strength. We believe that we have taken an important step to change the chip mindset and understand that by collaborating and connecting there can be many more opportunities than just competing.

And the community of innovators?

In Peru, the contribution to GDP of mining suppliers to the GDP is 3%, a figure well below that of countries such as Chile and Australia, with a contribution of 7.5% and 10% respectively. To take advantage of the potential that we have as a country, it is important to create connections that generate shared value, that reduce the challenges of innovation, that connect us to a global ecosystem with technological and market trends; connections that bring supply and demand closer togetherto demand.; IIn this case, we managed to connect 17 mining companies by sharing with the community their main challenges as a sector;, likewise, we brought the innovator closer to a mining company that sometimes seems very distant or difficult to approach, and we started a connection path of connection between innovators who allows them not only to go faster but also to go further.

What are the next steps?

In addition to the evaluation process of evaluating and selection ofng winners, logical steps in an open innovation contest, the challenge will be to consolidate  this connection between the innovator and the mining company in collaborative projects in collaborative projects, around based on the challenge and the proposed innovation. Likewise, as a the community that we are forming, it is vital to analyze what was missing lacking to reach achieve the implementation and thus promote alliances that will help to take that missing step.

Although in this first edition ten challenges were prioritized, it is important to mention as that a great opportunity to innovate, given the unmet need, is the challenge linked related to shared connectivity between the mining operation and the community; as well as the challenges related toregarding water resources (participatory management, water use rights, optimization of use). Not many proposals were received, and some categories were left desertedcompletely ignored. In line with what was explained above, the challenges coincide with this need to innovate with more than one actor, generating shared value, so it is worth asking ourselves if we are losing missing opportunities by not innovating in community.

Finally, some important figures numbers from this path are: 17 mining companies with more than 80 participants; 95 invitations to connect between innovators; 38 proposal profiles, 360 evaluations of from 10 mining companies as feedback; more than 1,000 participants in 8 webinars; and more than 50,000 visits on the web.
