The Organizing Committee of PERUMIN 34 launched a call for the 5th Hackathon 2019 "Together towards innovation from the energy mining sector". It invites young people over 18, professionals, university students and higher institutes from all over the country, to present propositions for technological innovation applicable to the various challenges of the mining industry and related activities.

The president of the Organizing Committee of PERUMIN 34, Carlos Gálvez, said that the mining industry relies on young talent and seeks to generate opportunities for them to exploit their creativity and knowledge, developing initiatives that can eventually become startups at the service not only from mining, but from the community.

"We make an open call to young people from all careers and specialties. The mining industry covers areas that go beyond engineering, such as social communication, water management, the environment, health and safety at work, community relations, among others. We need to develop innovative ideas in each of these areas", said Gálvez.

Winning propositions will enter the incubation program

The participating teams must have a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 members. The outstanding works (three first positions) will receive an economic incentive and free access to the incubation program for the development of their propositions, provided by InnovaEsan and the Center for Entrepreneurial Development of said house of studies.

The winners will also have the opportunity to present their initiatives in the innovation pavilion of PERUMIN 34, where they will have direct contact with potential investors and business leaders of the mining industry. The registration and application of propositions is done through the portal:

More than 604 participants in hackathons Heading to PERUMIN

The 5th Hackathon 2019, developed as part of Heading to PERUMIN activities, is organized by the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) and the Entrepreneur Development Center of the ESAN University (CDE), with the support of Telefónica, the National University of Engineering and the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP), official organizer of PERUMIN 34.

It should be noted that Heading to PERUMIN activities have brought together 604 participants from 37 universities in different parts of the country.

Among the ideas highlighted in previous editions of the hackathon are: drone to detect contaminants in the water, application (APP) to detect possible operational risks, helmet capable of emitting warning signals in case of danger situations, software for the automatic analysis of parameters environmental, among others.



PERUMIN is the most relevant Mining Convention in the world and is organized every two years by the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP). Its 34th edition, which will take place in Arequipa from 16th to 20th of September 2019 in Cerro Juli, will have as its theme "Mining, science, innovation, technology and education".

The aim of PERUMIN is to analyze and debate around the challenges facing the mining sector and to make known its importance for the economic and social development of the country. Likewise, it seeks to strengthen the specialized professional development of its participants and disseminate new knowledge that is the result of research, innovation and the application of new technologies in mining operations.
