Patricia Castillo Araníbar, a professor at the San Pablo Catholic University of Arequipa, created a short-range radar to detect adulterated beverages with greater precision.
"It has a double band of microwaves, which allows to make readings in more than one frequency and it is possible to obtain more than one parameter of measurement unlike the sensors that already exist in the market", explained Castillo.
After some tests on wine and pisco samples, the device successfully detected the presence of water, determining that these samples had been adulterated. Soon, the researcher will test milk to verify its density. "This is just the beginning of the study. We are going to do more tests to optimize this prototype", she said.
